I bought this vintage pearl guitar at a flea market.
the guitar sound good and plays well
but..
the guitar has a round hole that pierces the headstock, the hole was then closed with a piece of wood and nacre.
what is for is a hole in that point of the headstock?
I thinking about when in the 80s, labels gave vinilys at the radio or as a promotion, but they made a hole in the cover so as not to resell them?
to hang it up ?!

i've got a guitar that had an extra hole in the headstock also - right in the middle and smaller than yours though - that hole looks like it might have been used to hang the gtr?
Is there any wear around the hole? dunno otherwise.

yes the guitar has some minor wear around the hole,
but from what I could understand the guitar comes from a musical instrument shop and the hole has always been there, later it was closed by a luthier.
perhaps it was a promotional or demonstration product, it seems not played much, the guitar is like new, apart from the hole :)

I wonder if it was some sort of indicator that the guitar was not for resale. Like when radio stations got copies of records and they had a hole punched in the sleeve or the corner snipped off. Maybe it was a product demonstration item given to a shop and not intended to be sold? Interesting nonetheless.

Maybe it was used as decoration in a bar or venue. I’ve seen guitars with holes drilled where they were bolted to ceilings or walls.
