The opening lick of the song Take as needed for pain by Eyehategod. That record is filled with several of the most badass riffs ever.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.

Purely because I'm amazed it hasn't been said already

I WANNA BE YOUR mother-fucking DOG-The Stooges

This one is pretty special to me. I first heard it on a rainy day, from a very cool mother fucker in Aberdeen's only vinyl only record shop. I was just coming out a serious metal phase, 200bpm tempo's, all that kinda shit. He was playing Sonics, early Beefheart, then he pulls out this record by 4 "very naughty boys" (his words not mine) from Detroit and played track 2. It was like a kick in the face, the defining moment of what guitar/rock 'n' roll should be to me, primal, nasty, fuzzed up to the fucking eyeballs. It's also the first "tone" I every chased, 3 years on it still gives me chills.
Nicorette for your chakras.

God - so many but I always held soft spot for "Moonage Daydream" off the Spiders from Mars Bowie album and "In a Broken Dream" - Python Lee Jackson - both dead simple in the "While my Guiar Gently Weeps" vibe but still right there at the beginning!

Oh with a bit more wah - anybody remember "We Used to Know" by Jethro Tull (I've got the guys black italian Vox tonebender and like to think it might have been used on that one sometime!!)

G :headpop:

oh and Link Wray! I like to play his stuff on my old white jazzmaster of course 8-)

another thing prompted by the Moonage Daydream memory - I grabbed that old blue and white Copicat off Ched the bassist from the Rats the other month - he couldnt swear that Mick used it much but wrote to me that it was communallly owned/used by the band before half of them split off to work for Bowie in their new role as "Spiders" so no chance of its ever having any of the Bowie stuff across its circuitry but still cool to think it almost certainly had some experience with Micks mk1 Tonebender - Once I get round to having it restored I know what the first track through it will be and which fuzz I'll be using!! :-D

There's just too many:

"The Bit" by the Melvins
Just about every single riff off the first 6 Sabbath records.

"Cherry Red" by the Groundhogs

"Falcon has Landed" by the mighty Fu Manchu

"TV Eye" by the Stooges

"the thinf that should not be" by Metallica

Stop me please!!!!

So here are my odd selections.

Inactive - first song on the noothgrush corrupted split cd.. There's a riff that kicks in just into the song that's amazing

ok it's a cover but Going Blind - The Melvins

I'm with David the thing that should not be & Orion if we're talking metallica.

Tales of Lolita - Floor... gets me everytime

Not really a riff but there's omething about The River by NOMEANSNO, the whole song just puts shivers up my spine every time I hear it.. I've been know to listen to it 4 or 5 times on the trot going home
... No I can't turn down

The Beatles - Helter Skelter

Black Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots (or anything from the first 4 albums)

King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man

Led Zeppelin - The Immigrant Song

Yes - Roundabout

Queen - Another One Bites the Dust (I know... but I'm a bass player, it rocks simple as)
