Help Identifying a Pedal

Post by 1bottlerocket »

Hey all,

I ran across this picture of Hendrix with an amp top pedal in the background.

Do any of you have any idea what the pedal could be in the background? Thanks! :hmm:

the haircuts looks like 1966 to me - could this be a Roger Mayer box? :hmm:

I had considered that, but the shape seemed off to me. I was thinking it could be a German-produced Schaller build.

is that Noel's stack or Jimi's?
I've seen this pic before and can't remember what was figured out. there's thread on the forum here called 'jimi hendrix detective agency' where this might have been discussed

I was inferring that it is Jimi's stack based on the cord that appears to be going down to his guitar and it looks like Noel is not holding his bass in that photo.

I am going to check out that thread. Thanks!

well any cord from Jimi's amp would be connected to a fuzz face before reaching his guitar. I don't think we can find any time where he didn't have a fuzz face on the floor, no matter what else may have been in the chain. at least after november 1966

Reminds me of this, from late 1967:
(but while it looks similar, it'd be extremely unlikely to be the Jimi thing because the 1967 fuzz box below is just a demonstration of a DIY project)

I'm not aware of any guitar effects that look like whatever is sitting on that amp. Either it's something we haven't discovered yet, or it might just be some sort of boring PA gear...

Just speculation but my first thought is it's a splitter or active distribution amp with volumes for each of the two outputs (only one of which is connected, so it has no purpose in the shot, but it could have been before or after a show in some intermediate stage of setup).
