Los Dug Dug's: Mexican psychedelic fuzz, anyone?

Post by HorseyBoy »

Wondering if anyone else might have a soft spot for the psychedelic stylings of Mexican garage rockers Los Dug Dug's? I've been a fan of their first album from 1971 (variously known as "Same", "Dug Dug's" and "Lost in My World") for a while now, mainly thanks to the opener, "Lost in My World". But I've just grabbed a copy of their second album, "Smog", from 1972 and can't stop listening to it. Great, great guitar sounds, but pretty much every sound on the record - up to and including the flute - is to die for. They're often called the Mexican MC5 and occasionally compared to Jethro Tull (using a flute'll do that to you).
Would love some knowledgable or even wildly speculative opinions on the fuzz boxes at play here. Anyone have any ideas?

Here's "Lost in My World":

"Smog":

"Yo no Sé":

The truly EPIC (12 minutes!) "Hagamoslo Ahora":

Yeah, I meant to reply in this thread too.

Didn't mean to leave you hanging, HorseyBoy.

I like Los Dug Dugs and other Mexican psych too. I'll see if I can remember which ones I like the most so I can post 'em here.

Captain, hunt down a copy of "Smog" as well. I'm obsessed with it - can't stop listening to it and figuring out the guitar parts. Apparently the recording was fraught - lots of tension in the band and they dropped down to a power trio - but the results are awesome.
And chankgeez, I'd love to hear other Mexican psych bands from that era.

Yeah, there's stuff I like a little better than this stuff, but it's a start. I'll have to try to remember which stuff I like the best.
