Just saw on Facebook, someone confirmed with Ed King that the fuzz on Incense and Peppermints is a Maestro Fuzz-Tone, though whether it’s a 1 or 1A who knows. (Ed also noted that he was 15 when he played fuzz bass on Terry Teene’s “Pussy Galore”, which would put it around 1964. If it was the same fuzz he possibly had an FZ-1)

Also used were a ‘66 maple neck Tele and a ‘62 Fender Concert amp!

^^ What he said! Kind of a Count Five meets Oscar and the Majestics vibe - fuzz sounds awesome, and like it was recorded in a cavern. :tu:

Handmade, high-impact, great-looking radical queer germanium fuzz. A different approach to 1960s-inspired fuzz pedals, no clones, check them out at https://goodfuzzysounds.com or on YouTube https://tinyurl.com/GFS-YT

Playing around with my Pigdog FZ-1 the other day and I realized..... Satisfaction is played on the neck pickup.

Can't figure out if Keith used his Epi Casino or his '59 Burst on the track (both guitars were present in the studio when it was recorded), but I'm leaning towards the Casino. The clean bits have that woody hollowbody tone.

Here's the backing track extracted from an alternate stereo mix from the 3 tracks, see what you guys think! https://www.dropbox.com/s/y3v85w6ezvfaa ... g.mp3?dl=0

It might be a Gibson Firebird VII. Photo from May '65 sessions at RCA from which Satisfaction and others were recorded.

^ Great shot, Philip. Firebirds and fuzz are two of my favourite things, and they go together very nicely indeed. Check out this Fugs clip from 1968 (waveclipper first drew my attention to this years back). There's a wedge-shaped fuzz on the ground and the guitar sounds ace:

Father of the Fuzz-Tone dies at 96.(5/4/1922—5/21/2018) I spoke with Glenn about 7 years ago, I guess he was about 89 years old then. He was a bit crabby at first. Who are you? How’d you get this number? But he mellowed out a little later. He engineered many historic sessions including the final session of Hank Williams Sr and “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash. He told me how they recorded the trumpets upstairs away from the band to get a distant sound. Also, pretty sure he engineered that Marty Robbins session in 1961 for “Don’t Worry” where Grady Martin blew the pre-amp Line transformer on the Langevin desk which gave that huge ass fuzz bass sound....RIP, Mr. Fuzz! :tu: :freakout:  http://ultimateclassicrock.com/glenn-snoddy-dies/
