First DAM help

Post by underorbit »

Sorry to be annoying and start a thread like this, but unfortunately don’t have anyway to test any of these glorious fuzz boxes so thought I’d consult the experts.

I’ve been wanting to get a DAM TB style fuzz, but don’t know which I would be happy with. My main fuzzes now are an ‘98 Fuzz Factory and Prescription Experience. Play mostly older Fenders, Tweed Deluxe and 65 Bassman, with some old Jaguars, tele and an SG.

Recently my father passed and a family member has offered to help my purchase, so just wanna make a good choice. I’ve been leaning towards an EFE Lucifer Rising. Seems like a versatile TB, but also have an interest in Meatheads and the like. I think a MK2 is out of my range and I’m not huge into the gated decay on some.

I’m not opposed to Castledine, Pigdog, or something else. Just think those are out of the range of what I have to spend.

Basically got $300-$350 to spend on a fuzz.

I think a Lucifer Rising would be an excellent choice. I wouldn't want to part with mine.

firstly, my condolences

A great way to pop your DAM cherry is with a good old Meathead, no messing, one knob fuzz heaven, not really TB territory but can't go wrong really :tu:

I am sorry to hear of your loss and your father's passing.

I would second the Meathead recommendation. It will take you in Fuzz Face territory and beyond while not breaking the bank. If you want a super cool set up, try and land a Rooster to go with the Meathead. The two in tandem are extremely versatile. Best of luck.

Your older Fuzz Factory could be dialled in fairly close to a Meathead tone though...just a thought.

I bought a Lucifer Rising from Tommy’s. Figure I could return it if I don’t like it. I’ve gathered a few opinions and think it’s gonna be a good fit. Plus, the Captain said it’s kind of a budget Fuzz Sound and I don’t have any TB style fuzzes. I’ve always wanted a Meathead and maybe could still pick one up from the BS.

The Rooster or Supa Rooster are really interesting to me as a future purchase as well, but fear the old Fenders don’t have the same interaction as the British valve amps.

Also in talks with Stu Castledine for a custom build.

Thanks guys

I kinda liked the Lucifer better than the fuzzsound personally but maybe it was just the one I had. Either way it's a great MK IV style pedal!

If Lucy is a budget Fuzz Sound then you can call the same way each and every Sola Sound MkIV :hihi:

I didn’t mean any disrespect. I saw in the Lucifer Rising post the Captain says that it’s similar, but they’re unique in their sound.

Ha, I was just teasing :catfight:

Circuitwise they are probably pretty much the same if not the same thing - they are tuned differently though.
