I've recently completed a pair of strat modifications ...
I've done similar things on both so I'll keep this brief ... kind of lockdown projects ...

I had a Squier strat for my 16th birthday and decided to update it this year ...
I got a new neck, some nice 1954 tribute pickups and did some wiring acrobatics on it

A friend is a Jaguar man and I was always fascinated with how the pickups sounded
on that when the main difference between that and my strat seemed to
be how far apart they were ... I've also been interested in different wirings and always
been piqued that neck and bridge are not an accessible combination in standard wiring ...

I never ever use position 2 in standard strat wiring (neck and middle) and detest the
sound of 4 (middle and bridge), so why not take them out of the equation and include
neck and bridge as well?

I decided to put a 3 way switch in this and wire it up so it would be
1) neck and bridge
2) middle
3) bridge

I decided to put a pull switch in so I could get just neck if I wanted to ...
you get a very Jaguary / Telecastery sound with N&B together :)

I also worked on a "Squier series" strat (badged as Fender) to do the same thing ...
I put some Tone-rider pickups in for vintage sound and did the 3-way switch thing
again, this time putting in another switch to add middle wherever you wanted,
just to see if I could do it really ...

Both are really fantastic and far more usable for me personally than they would be with
stock wiring :)

Very cool. I like the idea of having a neck and bridge Option. I know some people convert one of the tone controls to a volume for the middle pup so you can roll it off for a similar effect.

Aye, that's right.
This arrangement works for me but it might not be everyone's cup of tea ...
I use N/B and B most often so it makes sense to me to have them at either extreme of the switch so I don't 'miss' in the heat of the moment

Those pickups are Tone Rider Pure Vintage by the way ...

The Roland Janes is an interesting variation that's worth googling ...

Yeah. Roland Janes is a nice way of doing it. I tend to use neck and middle pickup a lot on strats so I like that option.

I've been experimenting with '60s hobby mag fuzzers - this one has 4 OC71s and sounds GOOD!
am waiting on a new tripod adaptor to do better videos - coming soon.
