Re: What is on your workbench Tinkerers?
hopefully the family emergency has passed and all is well
STRIP IT! STRIP IT! STRIP IT! definitely worth the time and effort if you can unearth / rescue / restore that original finish. it's like slowly opening a Christmas present lol
start on the back of the guitar. go slow. as soon as you start to see color stop and move to another section. oh man, with this talk i'm having flashbacks...

Sadly not mine. The owner inherited it from his brother and it’s been sitting unused for about 20 years. I don’t think he quite realised how cool and valuable this guitar is.

Dammit Cody!
No way back now..
Unfortunately, someone sanded through the red finish prior to the overspray but nothing too serious, so far

oh man keep it up. a little wear and tear is perfectly acceptable.
i went nuts when i found the original play wear on the mustang. someone loved playing it enough to wear through the comp stripe!!!

Re: What is on your workbench Tinkerers?
It's going to be long process (we're flying back to Spain next week) but I'm definitely gonna see it through.
Since it's already been routed I'm tempted to do something like this, but I might go with a WRHB in the bridge and JM in the neck position.
@Jim, do you have any tips on how to best tackle the neck issue, assuming it's worth the trouble at all

Re: What is on your workbench Tinkerers?
The truss rod should be pretty easy to replace. You can take the fretboard off with a clothes iron, a hot palette knife and a bit of patience. Assuming the truss rod is standard fender style, you can get a new one and drop it in there.Radiotron wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 9:27 pm
On with the bad.
I immediately noticed the lack of a trussrod adjustment.
Seems like the trussrod snapped off at the heel, bummer, not sure how to go about it yet.
I have a Tokai neck that actually fits better than the original but I really want to salvage it.

OG WRHB's are probably my favorite pickups.
I have a number Creamery JM here as well, probably will use those in the neck position

Thanks for the input Jim!
Do you pull the frets before applying the heat and have you managed to re-use a board after removal?
