Re: The Balls Thread
It's amp week on the Great Brooklyn Build Off...
Balls G-50. This is my Marshall 2204 style amp. I make this in either the stock 2204 circuit or with my personal mods that I like and this is the latter. The stock 2204, to my ears, is a bit bright especially if you arent playing humbuckers. My circuit mods tame that down a bit. I also find the "Low" jack on a standard 2204 to be lame as hell, so this reconfigures things to be more like a standard low jack seen on Fender, Hiwatt, other Marshall, etc. This particular instance adds in an effects loop as well as a post-PI Master Volume. Mix and match Masters!

HOT PEREZ. HP-1 circuit clone. The HP-1of course does not seem to have one stock design in terms of part values as slight changes were made over its small lifecycle. Much internet sleuthing on behalf of many people has come up with what are the various HP-1 variables, and this one is the schematic version purported to be closest to Mr Albini's HP-1. Its a little more smooth and less wild than some of the other variants. These are using germanium diodes spec matched to the OG 1N695 diodes in the original, an AC125 germanium transistor, and a 2N3565 silicon transistor.

Balls BP-20R. Basically a direct clone of a AA1164 Princeton Reverb with a few modifications:
- Mid-range control added
- PPI Master Volume added
- Modern standards added: grid stoppers, screen resistors, adjustable bias.
Also this is amp #72 and I made my first rookie mistake in quite some time. I placed my board too close to my input jacks, generating a nasty feedback loop at high gain settings. Had to fabricate a little shield to stick between the two:

Very nice! You should add sound clips.

Balls H-50. Hiwatt style 50 watt build with internally jumpered bright and normal channels. Built to my layout instead of the classic Dave Reeves one as I find this to be more intuitive, space-saving, and a tad more robust.
Also, i'm putting my partner to work making amp covers! She's a clothing designer/sewer/creator and has the skills for the job. This one will have a cover made before its pickup next week, and then after that I should have standard and custom covers available.
