Zonk Machine Clone soundclips...

Post by capricorn_1 »

ok I have made a couple of Zonk Machine clones and am waiting on the opinion of somebody who actually has one before I sell them in earnest. They sound good but I'm not sure how far to go with them, i can make them lowish gain or high gain if you get me! Here I present a few soundclips of the zonk with various transistors...

first a zonk with no 'mojo' parts, carbon film resistors, and 3 CV7355 transistors (same gains as the 'mojo' clip in a bit)...

second a zonk with 'mojo' capacitors, carbon comp resistors, and OC84, CV7042, OC45 transistors...

Download: http://www.happyrobotmusic.co.uk/mp3/pedals/hr_zonk_mj_sc.mp3

third a zonk with no mojo parts but OC45, CV7355, OC45 transistors...

Download: http://www.happyrobotmusic.co.uk/mp3/pedals/hr_zonk_1.mp3

Fourth same as last one but with OC45, OC44, OC45 transistors...

Download: http://www.happyrobotmusic.co.uk/mp3/pedals/hr_zonk_3.mp3

the first 2 are pretty 'hot' in terms of gain, the second 2 are not so 'hot'.

any opinions? even better if you have one or have heard one

for my part i actually like the high gain ones, all sorts of craziness going on there when backing off the guitars tone and volume controls. :crackjam:

Yeah I'm looking into getting one of these so any input from Zonk owners would be cool.

I like the crazy buzz of clip number 2.

haha at last! i thought people might be all over these! maybe my rubbish playing put people off :marx:

yeah, number 2 is pretty far out, maybe a little bit over the top in terms of gain values!

i also like number 1 as its like a more controllable version of number 2 AND can be repeated easily by myself as i have hundreds of those cv7355s.

i'm still waiting for the owner of an original to get back to me (guess who!) by email about these clips, just to give me a bit of rough feedback.

cheers philip! what i actually meant was i thought people would be all over the clips, not actually all over the pedals themselves, i'm not going to be churning these out whatsoever (mk1 like drain on mental health!). my bad. :rolleyes2:
