Still looking for that lovely heybulldog sound

If you guys remember me from the older version of the forum, you may remember my pushing and prodding of the captain for a hey bulldog sounding fuzzbox. I know Stuart at one point was playing with a similar sounding circuit. Has anyone come up with anything recently that would cover that sound. Its essentially the vox built in unit.

It's pretty mild for a fuzz.
The guitar/amp combo will have much more
affect on the whole sound. I'd say an FZ-1 type
circuit with the fuzz amount rolled way back would
do it. Pretty similar to the MKI at any rate.

i dont know what the "built in vox" circuit is but when i heard this sound clip i was thinking my VT orange sunshine can pretty much sound like that (i love it) and is apparently based on a vox distortion-booster...

It is similar to my mk1.5 however, there is a roundness to the tone and there is a little brighter attack but yet better sustain. at times it seems like its cocked with a wah. Which makes me think its most likely not a germ tranny but more of a silicon type of circuit. It is light gain but yet again, it has that sustain and attack that I like.

the problem with building just the distortion circuit is the amp may have had an effect on how the distortion circuit sounded. Meaning you would need to recreate the distortion circuit and maybe have some controls to allow this type of sound. I have always loved this type of fuzzy.

Playing with my meathead, I swear the meathead could be modified and tweaked to give the hey bulldog sound, my meathead has more gain and more beef but has the vibe. I think the captain could swing it out of the park.

the vox amps had a midrange boost feature that is said to have developed into the stand alone wah pedal later. on the vox amps it's a three position switch that roughly correlates to a wah in toe down, mid position, and toe up. combined with the treble and bass tone controls of the circuit plus the distorion it's a little like searching for needle in a haystack to get that tone! (the solo from "sympathy for the devil" is much easier to replicate). this is just my experience from owning stu's first magical mystery box btw so the amps themselves may be a lot different.

Your best bet is to pm stu and see if he'll make you a Magical Mystery Box.

With some EQ tweaking you can get close with a D*A*M Red Rooster mind you, or a Grease Box.
