It sounds fine with P90s or humbuckers as well.
Of course there isn't as much clean up with a hotter
output pickup...
If you use a humbucker and want the cleanup I can build it
with a third knob "pre gain" that attenuates the input signal
and keeps the signal bright with a treble bleed capacitor built in.

Re: Basic Audio "Gnarly Fuzz"
Cool! I'm gonna do a follow up clip this week because after talking with John it seems as though I have a LOT more to explore! The Gnarly's fuzz control is a blend that pans between one and two transistors
in the circuit. All the way counter clockwise is the first transistor and full CW is
two transistors in series. There are a bunch of different sounds in the in between settings
of the fuzz knob ( John actually it the "Texture" knob). The middle settings has that fuzzrite
growly octavish kind of thing going on. VERY cool and so typical of what John does! Most of his pedals are hiding all kinds of fuzzy treats if you really take the time to explore. Have you ever really dug in to a Solar Myth??? That thing is the bomb too! ...and the Scarab?? ...the Wild Cat??? ...don't get me started!
I try to get to it early this week.
