Jerms -- My ATES AC135 is very much like the other one ... but what is the brown/black domed transistor on my board? Any idea?

Looks like silicon transistor similar to what you'd find in the Astrotone and Fuzzz Boxx. Late 60s make I'd guess.

I think that you are right. It sounds like a hybrid Si/Ge fuzz, too. I suppose that the smartest thing would be to change that silicon transistor out to a period Ge one, but I think that I'm going to keep it there. Thanks.

Have you checked out the trace-side of the board? It's highly unlikely, but not impossible, that it's factory. Regardless, I'd definitely leave it in there if it sounds good. I actually think it's rad, and probably a really old mod.DBBlues wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 3:55 amI think that you are right. It sounds like a hybrid Si/Ge fuzz, too.
