VINTAGE VOX & CRYBABY INFO & APPRECIATION
So... I'm familiar with the history of the Wah wah.
But the whole vox /Thomas organ Jen thing??
I understand Italy was making wahs for the UK & US and both parties wanted there Wah to be different to the others.
What I don't understand is the variations in caps.
Not just within each other but the same brand.
I've seen trash can crybaby's from 69 ( I'm guessing ) using tropical fish .22uf caps, Arco .22uf caps & ICC .22uf caps. Also I've seen those rectangle .22uf caps but I'm unsure of the brand.
I've noticed the Vox V846 used procond .22uf caps.
All 69 models I believe used carbon film resisitors, iskra etc.
But not necessarily in the same spots as each other.
Basically I'm asking... We're they just using what ever came to hand?
And the model could change guts by the day/week??
Also Icar inductors... We're they exclusive to Vox?
Cheers!

Re: Vintage crybaby / vox Wah wah's
i’m new to these wah’s, but have been really interested lately.
i’ve been collecting gut shots with serial numbers trying to make some sense of the variation (send me more!)
it looks like similar components were used in similar serial numbers. so maybe they were made in batches according to whatever were the cheapest parts they could order that month?
my question is- what do the vox serial numbers mean? how were they assigned/used/built?
my earliest serial number is 1627125 (vox 846 w/500 film can). my latest is 1842578 (vox 846 w/ film can) I’ve got about 75 pics (crybabies, v846’s, and top logo king wahs). the variation in parts is pretty crazy. and these were made over what, a 1 or 2 year period?

Re: Vintage crybaby / vox Wah wah's
Well... The ones I've seen are just what ive found on Google.
I'll post em up. I'm sure no-one will mind.
Although I've just bought a crybaby trash can which actually is post serial number I believe.
It's a 310.001 model
Now it has the rectangle .22uf caps. But I've seen the same model with various other caps....
