Does anyone have a 70s V that I can check some measurements for please? The previous owner of the one I’m working on suspected that the guitar had a neck reset at some point and also that the body had been sanded thinner. I’m interested to find out what the neck angle should be and also the dimensions of the body (depth particularly).
After stripping the guitar’s finish, I can see no evidence of a neck reset and I don’t think it’s been heavily over sanded. I’m pretty sure 70s Vs were a bit thinner than modern ones anyway. Also, what appeared to be a serious headstock break has revealed itself to be a well repaired and very minor crack.
Thanks

Re: 70s Gibson Flying V queries
Finally getting around to the 70s V restoration.
I’ve found remnants of a serial number (hard to see in the pic). 5 and possibly a 1 plus a weird oval where someone may have preserved it during a refin. It’s had at least 2 previous refinishes that probably correspond with the 2 headstock cracks. Layers of paint in the cavities are bright red, black, conductive paint, Pelham blue then white primer. No sign of stain in the wood under that. Could it have been Pelham originally? I don’t know if it was even an option on 70s Vs.
