Doombender mk1 (soundclips added)

Post by capricorn_1 »

People have probably seen this already, its for sale at £100 plus shipping (£5 UK, £8 EU, £15 USA/ROW - all royal mail recorded delivery and well packaged, marked as a 'gift' so no customs charges).
It's a Tonebender mk1 with larger input and output caps for more bass, also 2 x 22uf electrolytics like the hurst schem, and a 1.2m output resistor for a bit more output.
Input cap = 0.1uf Wima (old)
Output cap = 0.53uf Panasonic (modern)
Tagboard construction with fixed 8.2k bias, OC71, OC73, and OC45 transistors in there.
The transistors were checked for gain and leakage, checked again in the circuit temporarily, then soldered into the circuit for eternity!
Old mini chicken head knobs, hand sanded top surface with decal labelling and clearcoat.
Full warranty included.

And here is one with the Doombender mk1 alongside a wooden JMI mk1, DB 1st then JMI 2nd and so on for each chord/riff/phrase.

Both have the attack on full, the jmi has the volume on full, the DB has the volume halfway. To my ears the Doombender has more sustain, less gating, less sizzle, and more output, anyway judge for yourself! :marx:

And lastly here's one done with a bass guitar, however its recorded using a small guitar practice amp i'm afraid! starts off with the attack turned down then up, then all over the shop.

if its not gone by friday I will have to resort to Ebay.

I'm absolutely NOT taking any orders on MK1s at present so here is a good chance to get one from me.

any questions please ask. :tu:

It would be great if you could make a sample on bass. I'm very interested!

you're going to lose some bottom end from a bass guitar but its got more bass than a stock mk1.

I have been wondering what this 'sizzle' is that everybody talks about with the MKI, then I heard that JMI in the audio clip above. Yikes!

I generally take a different, slightly simpler approach. I like to leave the volume knob on my guitar maxed out. I set my tone knob to wherever I like it for a clean tone and don't mess with it. Any tones that I get out of my pedals come from dialing in the tone/attack/fuzz (depending on the pedal, of course) until I find what I'm looking/listening for. This works well for me live and for recording, but that's just my preference.

What happens in the case of not at all? Does it not have a sweet spot or do you go back to where the sizzle originally was?
